Learn moreWhy Grapefruit for Dull & Uneven Skin
Benefits of Grapefruit Despite having relatively few calories, it’s loaded with nutrients to help your body thrive. Sometimes referred to as a superfood, grapefruit is loaded with Vitamins A and C, which boost your body’s immune system. This powerful combination could help keep the amount of time you spend sick to a minimum. The benefits aren’t only from ingesting the fruit though. Grapefruit in Skincare In addition to being an amazing source of vitality from the inside out, grapefruit, rich in Vitamin C and Lycopene (two antioxidant heavy hitters), naturally evens the appearance of skin’s tone, enhances glow, promoting healthier-, smoother- and softer-looking skin. It is actually an effective natural exfoliator for dull and uneven skin. Additionally, the antioxidants in Vitamin C may help defend against the damage that UV light can cause. That doesn’t mean that you can use a Vitamin C skin product in place of sunscreen. It can’t replace SPF since it doesn’t absorb UVA or UVB rays. But, if UV light does get into your skin, some research suggests that Vitamin C can help blunt the harm. Yes To Grapefruit Products With all of the benefits of this powerful citrus, it’s no wonder we launched the Yes To Grapefruit line in 2013, helping dull and uneven skin tone feel radiant and glowy. With the power of natural ingredients and a full regimen of products, there’s truly something for everyone. All great routines start with a cleanse. Our Daily Scrub and Cleanser or Daily Foaming Cleanser are the perfect way to invigorate and brighten your skin. The gentle exfoliator enhances skin glow and washes away makeup, dirt and oil while using natural Jojoba spheres to slough away dead skin cells. The soothing foaming cleanser will wash away dirt and oil without stripping the skin, setting the perfect base for an AHA or BHA treatment. Both cleansers leave skin feeling soft and smooth and ready for the next step of your routine. Our Glow-Boosting Exfoliating Acid Pads will make you feel like you just got a facial since they naturally exfoliate with Grapefruit and AHA + BHA, giving your skin the glow you want, without the dryness you definitely don’t. In fact, after 4 weeks of use, 87% of users said the pads made their skin look and feel smoother, softer and visibly improved the appearance of their skin texture; and 87% of users said the pads left skin feeling resurfaced, renewed and revived. After any chemical exfoliation it’s best to follow with a moisturizer. Most people reach for our rich Nourishing Moisturizer to hydrate and brighten skin or our Daily Mineral Lotion with SPF15 to protect skin from UV rays and long-term blue light exposure without an greasy residue. So what are you waiting for? Get glowing on how to build your very own skincare routine using Yes To Grapefruit products today!
Learn moreHow Does Salicylic Acid Fight Acne?
How Does Salicylic Acid Work? Salicylic Acid powerfully penetrates into the pores of the skin to dissolve the debris of dead skin cells and sebum that clogs pores. That’s really what makes it a hero ingredient in over-the-counter blemish and acne fighting products. An added bonus is Salicylic Acid’s anti-inflammatory properties, just like its cousin Acetylsalicylic Acid –– better known as aspirin –– helps red inflamed pimples and pustules go away faster. When it comes to over-the-counter solutions in the battle against breakouts, there are a few key players you should know about, and Salicylic Acid is at the top of that list. AHA v. BHA There are two classes of skincare acids you’ve probably heard about: beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). While both alpha and beta hydroxy acids exfoliate the skin, AHAs are water-soluble and BHAs are oil-soluble. They are both effective, but work a bit differently, depending on your acne needs. Salicylic Acid is a BHA, and examples of AHAs include glycolic and lactic acids. AHAs work well on the skin's surface to loosen old, dead skin and reveal fresh newer skin, while BHAs like Salicylic Acid work deeper to penetrate into the pores to unclog them. It’s possible to use too much Salicylic Acid, which can become a problem. The primary negative side effect of Salicylic Acid is its ability to irritate and dry skin in those that are very sensitive or those who overuse it. Salicylic Acid in Yes To Products While they are at least 95% natural ingredients in composition, many of our Yes To Tomato products contain an effective amount of Salicylic Acid. Dermatologist Dr. Christine Choi Kim recommends, “As long as you are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or have an allergy to salicylates, my first recommendation for blemish-prone skin is a cleanser that contains Salicylic Acid.” Dr. Kim goes on to say that, “Among the sea of options out there, one standout is Yes To Tomatoes Charcoal Detoxifying Daily Cleanser. This cleanser has got it all: Charcoal to naturally detoxify impurities and deep clean your skin, Tomato Extract to deliver antioxidants, and of course Salicylic Acid to help clear up your whiteheads and blackheads. My favorite feature? It contains eco-friendly biodegradable Jojoba spheres for gentle exfoliation. That makes it safer for both your face and the environment!” Another product Dr. Kim loves to recommend for stubborn pimples is the Yes To Tomatoes Zit Zapping Dots. “These handy (and fun!) micro-mask dots provide a concentrated formulation of Salicylic Acid, Charcoal, and Tomato Extract to fight blemishes with 96% natural ingredients,” she explains. “The occlusive nature of the dots helps to drive the ingredients more effectively into the skin. So while you’re sleeping, that pimple is getting zapped!” And if you’re looking for acne-fighting power in addition to exfoliation, try our Glow-Boosting Exfoliating Acid Pads. For use once weekly, these double-sided quilted pads are formulated with Grapefruit and 15% fruit acids—including Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Gluconolactone and Salicylic Acid—to exfoliate and even out tone & texture, leaving skin glowing. Learn moreWhy Tomatoes for Blemish Prone Skin
Tomatoes in Skincare A 2011 study found that the combination of tomato paste and olive oil protected against sun damage, and boosted the production of pro-collagen, a molecule that gives the skin its structure and keeps it firm and youthful. It’s believed that the Lycopene in tomatoes is the key to its skin care magic. Tomatoes are also amazing acne fighters. It’s true! Yes To Tomatoes Blemish-Fighting Products Each of our skin care lines harness the power of fruits and vegetables, and Our Yes To Tomatoes products are specifically formulated for oily/combination and breakout-prone skin using natural ingredients. The Yes To Tomatoes line, launched in 2008, leverages antioxidant-rich Tomato Extract, in addition to other natural ingredients like Watermelon Extract and powerful sebum-absorbers that balance skin, eliminate shine, detox pores, and reduce acne. Some of our Yes To Tomatoes formulas, like the Daily Detoxifying Cleanser with Charcoal, combine the power of Salicylic Acid and Tomato Extract to help unclog pores and draw out dirt and impurities for naturally clearer skin. Acne-prone people may be afraid of moisturizers, thinking they will make oily skin worse, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Depriving the skin of moisture only causes the skin to produce more oil. Our Yes To Tomatoes line has several moisturizers and masks like the Charcoal Detoxifying Overnight Moisturizer and Daily Balancing Moisturizer that are specifically formulated to give oily, acne prone skin a boost of hydration. So, what is your face waiting for? Give one of the products in our Yes To Tomatoes collection a try and stop breakouts before they even has a chance to start.
Learn moreHow Does Hyaluronic Acid Hydrate Skin?
What is Hyaluronic Acid? Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a sugar found naturally in our skin that holds water and helps keep it hydrated and plump. The HA within our bodies not only retains all that moisture in our skin and joints, but also prevents it from evaporating. Just like Collagen and Elastin, the amount of naturally-occurring Hyaluronic Acid in our bodies decreases as we get older. There are, however, ways to help stimulate production of HA in our bodies. Diet affects the skin significantly and eating fruits and veggies with antioxidants protect the skin from inflammation in turn helps the skin retain hydration. How Hyaluronic Acid Hydrates Skin When used in skin care products like creams and serums, Hyaluronic Acid brings moisture to the surface of your skin. Dermatologist Dr. Christine Choi Kim explains, “Hyaluronic Acid is a powerful humectant of the skin because of its ability to attract up to 1000x its weight in water.” She recommends, “If you have naturally dry skin, choosing products with Hyaluronic Acid will help give your skin a boost of hydration that it needs. Hyaluronic Acid hydrates and plumps up the skin and can reduce the appearance of wrinkles.” Hyaluronic Acid in Yes To Products The formulas in our new Yes To Avocado line of products use Avocado Oil and Hyaluronic Acid to help restore the driest skin, naturally. Dr. Kim says, “As we age, our natural Hyaluronic Acid gets depleted, so our skin needs a little extra help to retain moisture and stay smooth, soft, and supple. Eye creams with Hyaluronic Acid are beneficial because of their ability to attract water and maintain moisture in the delicate skin area under the eyes.” Get the glow you want without any of the harsh ingredients you don’t. Learn moreGet Glow-y with Grapefruit...On National Grapefruit Day
The hardest working ingredient in every one of our Grapefruit products is—surprise—Grapefruit Extract. It’s rich in Vitamin C and Lycopene (two antioxidant heavy hitters) which naturally help to make your skin tone more even and enhance glow, promoting healthier-, smoother- and softer-looking skin. Any one of our Grapefruit products will help boost brightness, but to go all-in on glow, here’s how to build a simple yet effective grapefruit-infused regimen. Step 1: Cleanse with the Grapefruit Daily Foaming Cleanser This gentle foaming cleanser can be used AM or PM to remove makeup and cleanse skin without stripping, leaving it soft and prepped for AHA/BHA/PHA treatments by loosening dead skin cells. Grapefruit Extract and Vitamin C work together to brighten skin and provide antioxidant benefits even on non-exfoliation days. Step 2: Treat with the Grapefruit Daily Exfoliating Toner A liquid toner that contains natural exfoliators to help skin appear smoother and brighter, this treatment is formulated with antioxidant-packed Grapefruit Extract and 10% fruit acids (AHAs + BHAs). Lactic Acid (AHA): A gentler, exfoliating AHA to help keep skin soft Glycolic Acid (AHA): A chemical exfoliant that penetrates skin deeply, helping skin feel firmer while minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Willow Bark Extract (BHA): Used in many skin treatments, helps clear pores and brighten skin Step 3: Moisturize with the Grapefruit Daily Nourishing Lotion After cleansing surface impurities and exfoliating away dead cells, your skin is ready to soak up a moisturizing blend of Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter and Avocado Oil. Packed with fatty acids and vitamins, these emollient natural ingredients help form a protective barrier over skin to hold in moisture, nourishing skin and helping to improve skin elasticity. Those moisture-sealing properties make this lotion an ideal follow-up to acid-based exfoliation. Step 4: For sun (and screen) protection, follow with the Grapefruit Daily Mineral Lotion SPF 15 This broad-spectrum UVA/UVB mineral sunscreen (formulated with Non-Nanoparticle Zinc Oxide) uses Grapefruit Extract and Vitamin C to help keep skin glowing while providing an essential shield against sun damage and long-term blue light exposure. Since AHAs can cause photosensitivity, this mineral lotion is a crucial step on exfoliation days. Its creamy texture and Zinc Oxide blend in and absorb beautifully without leaving behind a greasy residue or white cast. Bonus: Get an extra dose of glow with the Grapefruit Brightening Bubbling Paper Mask Not necessary for everyday use (go ahead and pamper yourself once a week), this gentle cotton mask bubbles on contact to infuse skin with oxygen (to help purify) and Grapefruit Extract and Vitamin C (to help brighten skin’s appearance). Happy glowing, and happy National Grapefruit Day!
