How Does Hyaluronic Acid Hydrate Skin?

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a sugar found naturally in our skin that holds water and helps keep it hydrated and plump. The HA within our bodies not only retains all that moisture in our skin and joints, but also prevents it from evaporating. Just like Collagen and Elastin, the amount of naturally-occurring Hyaluronic Acid in our bodies decreases as we get older. There are, however, ways to help stimulate production of HA in our bodies. Diet affects the skin significantly and eating fruits and veggies with antioxidants protect the skin from inflammation in turn helps the skin retain hydration.

How Hyaluronic Acid Hydrates Skin

When used in skin care products like creams and serums, Hyaluronic Acid brings moisture to the surface of your skin. Dermatologist Dr. Christine Choi Kim explains, “Hyaluronic Acid is a powerful humectant of the skin because of its ability to attract up to 1000x its weight in water.” She recommends, “If you have naturally dry skin, choosing products with Hyaluronic Acid will help give your skin a boost of hydration that it needs. Hyaluronic Acid hydrates and plumps up the skin and can reduce the appearance of wrinkles.”

Hyaluronic Acid in Yes To Products

The formulas in our new Yes To Avocado line of products use Avocado Oil and Hyaluronic Acid to help restore the driest skin, naturally.

Dr. Kim says, “As we age, our natural Hyaluronic Acid gets depleted, so our skin needs a little extra help to retain moisture and stay smooth, soft, and supple. Eye creams with Hyaluronic Acid are beneficial because of their ability to attract water and maintain moisture in the delicate skin area under the eyes.”
